Into the woods - Wistman's Woods

This is a place you expect to only see in a movie or a dream. But I promise you it is real!!

The circular walk, taking in Wistman’s Wood and Crockern Tor, is approximately 5 miles, and you should allow a good 2 hours or so depending on your walking pace. Pack a lunch to make a day of it, there are plenty of beautiful spots for a lunch break! Remember to leave no trace and take all rubbish home with you.

In the woods its self, please take care as these woods are up to 500 years old and with the traffic of visitors recently it has been known to have had some damage caused to the trees and the moss so please watch your step and again leave no trace!

To start the walk, cross the main road directly to the side of the Two Bridges Hotel, through a small car park and gate (take care crossing the road, due to the blind bend.)

Remember that the weather can change very quickly on Dartmoor, so you should pack extra layers, take a rain coat and wear walking shoes/boots. In the winter months it can become very boggy down by the river!!

Make sure that you allow plenty of time to complete your walk before it gets dark and always try to walk with at least one walking buddy! It can be very easy to get lost on the moors and it gets very cold, very quickly!

Parking -

There are a few spaces just up the road from the hotel and a car park opposite the hotel, these are both free options. If there are no spaces here you will be able to park in the hotel car park at a charge (when it is open) please try to avoid parking on the banks on the side of the road as will damage the moors!
